Maiko was born in Oita city , Japan. She started to play percussions when she was junior high school. She moved to New York in spring of 2004 and entered to The New School. She has studied with Ari Hoenig, Carl Allen, Charlie Pership, Reggie Workman, Jane Ira Bloom, Billy Harper, George Garzone, Francesca Tanksley, Rory Stuart, Kirk Nurock and Rich Shmaria.

She had opportunities to play with Phill Woods, Billy Harper, George Garzone and a lot of great musicians. She also had oppotinities to play at Dizzy’s club (Lincoln Center), Sweet Rhythm, St Peter Church, Center for Jewish History, Showman’s, Garage and so on.

Maiko had japan tour with John Beaty (a.sax)and Yayoi Ikawa(piano) in August of 2005. She also had Japan tour with John Beaty and Joe Beaty (tb)and Ayako Sato, Ryouhei Komaki(bass) in July of 2006.

She graduated from the New School in May of 2007.
